DARK MATCH (2024) is a new horror movie with an action wrestling plot. It may sound weird to you, but it works. Trust me! The movie is getting its world premiere at Fantasia 2024. Read our mini-review of Dark Match here!

DARK MATCH (2024) is a horror-action movie set in the wrestling world. As someone who loved wrestling growing up, and also really enjoyed the Netflix series G.L.O.W., this is right up my alley.

However, trust me, even if you’re not into wrestling at all, this one is still worth your time. In fact, part of the plot acknowledges the fact that not everyone likes wrestling. Wrestling legend Chris Jericho plays a key role in the movie.

Serious yet fun genre-mix

In Dark Match, we learn just how tough indie wrestling can be. Quite a few movies and series have been made about wrestling in recent years, and this one also belongs right alongside those productions.

However, this one also has a darker and more sinister streak that makes it an actual horror movie. A bit more Running Man-inspired via the challenges our wrestlers find themselves in.

World Premiere for Dark Match at Fantasia 2024

Lowell Dean is the filmmaker behind this movie as both writer and director. He was also the filmmaker behind the cult hit Wolfcop, and appropriately made it to Fantasia in 2017 with the sequel Wolfcop 2.

Now his latest movie is enjoying its World Premiere at Fantasia 2024 and it is the perfect place for it.

We’re talking about a movie full of wrestling that gets both brutal and sinister. Sure, we get the well-choreographed and more “entertainment focus” matches as well, but things get dark.

Dark Match is screening at Fantasia 2024 and is bound for film festival success.

Plot

A small-time wrestling company accepts a well-paying gig in a backwoods town only to learn, too late, that the community is run by a mysterious cult leader with devious plans for their match.

I usually keep up-to-date with all the horror news, and make sure Heaven of Horror share the best and latest trailers for upcoming horror movies. I love all kinds of horror. My love affair started when I watched 'Poltergeist' alone around the age of 10. I slept like a baby that night and I haven't stopped watching horror movies since. The crazy slasher stuff isn't really for me, but hey, to each their own. I guess I just like to be scared and get jump scares, more than being disgusted and laughing at the grotesque. Also, Korean and Spanish horror movies made within the past 10-15 years are among my absolute favorites.
