DON’T COME HOME on Netflix is a new horror thriller series from Thailand (org. title: Ya Klap Ban). A mind-bending story told across time. With just six episodes, it’s a fairly quick watch. Read our Don’t Come Home series review here!

DON’T COME HOME is a new Netflix series with just six 45-minute episodes. It’s a genre hybrid where episode 1 feels like a straight-up horror movie comparable to The Conjuring (but with classic Thai twists).

However, as it evolves, it moves from horror into something more. Oh, it’s still horror all right, but thriller, crime, and mystery also become plot drivers in this mind-bender of a plot. The original Thai title is Ya Klap Ban.

An order or a warning?

The title of Don’t Come Home seems ominous in itself, but is it meant as an order or a warning? Whatever the case, Varee does return to her childhood home, when running from her abuser, and everything goes wrong from there.

Except the nature of this mind-bending story means that “from there” isn’t quite as chronological as I just made it sound.

Part of the story plays out in 1992, so there are characters who exist across time and come to interact in ways they probably shouldn’t. To avoid spoilers, that’s all I’ll say about that.

I will, however, say that paranormal incidents and the disappearance of a little girl are at the very core of Don’t Come Home.

The brutal ending of Don’t Come Home

This isn’t a Don’t Come Home ending explained or a spoiler revealing details of the ending. Instead, I want to warn you that the ending of Don’t Come Home is brutal in a heartwrenching way.

Also, it’s a really good ending. One that combines all storylines, so the bits and pieces you’ve picked up along the previous five episodes are explained in episode 6.

I think genre fans will enjoy this Thai Netflix series as it offers a story that utilizes all the strengths of its genres. From horror to thriller, crime, and mystery. Also, it truly is a gorgeous mind-bender!

Plot

A mother and her young daughter flee to their family’s abandoned mansion but soon find themselves haunted by paranormal incidents that lead to the little girl’s mysterious disappearance.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
