LITTLE BITES is a horror movie that features a slow-burn storyline and is very character-driven. I was not crazy about the ending (or, well, parts of the ending), but enjoyed it overall. Still, I think it’s too long and would improve by cutting a good 15 minutes.

The elements of body horror and a fascinating creature worked extremely well. The practical effects are very well made and worked perfectly for me. I completely accepted that this woman had a flesh-devouring creature living in her basement. It just felt real to me.

Slowly getting eaten alive

No, we’re not talking about mosquitos or some other “little” creature taking tiny nibbles of you. Instead, the creature in Little Bites takes bites that I found to be quite large. As in “human mouth”-sized.

When he states “I’m hungry” there isn’t much room for debate.

Either you feed him or he threatens to go after the ones you love. For Mindy Vogel (Krsy Fox), it’s her 10-year-old daughter, Alice (Elizabeth Phoenix Caro), the creature threatens to devour instead.

Unfortunately, the creature, Agyar (Jon Sklaroff), is hungry often and leaves bites and wounds all over Mindy’s body.

Little Bites (2024) – Review | Monster Horror Movie

Featuring iconic women of horror

Alongside Krsy Fox (Allegoria), Little Bites features an impressive supporting cast of iconic women of horror. In a movie that is all about being a parent – particularly a mother, in the case of this story – it makes perfect sense to include all these strong women!

From Barbara Crampton (Jakob’s Wife, Blackout, Alone with You) as a Child Protective Services worker to Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Home, The Midnight Club) as an experienced and kind mother.

Finally, we have Bonnie Aarons (The Nun,  The Bell Keeper) as the mother of the lead character. Krsy Fox also directed and co-starred with Bonnie Aarons in the movie I Live Alone.

Little Bites is written & directed by Spider One, who also made Allegoria (2022) and Bury the Bride (2023). The executive producers of this movie are Tyler Connolly, Ian Hoge, Wendy Berry, and Mark Berry.

Also, the supporting actor in Little Bites, Chaz Bono, and Cher are executive producers as well. Cher is Chaz’s mom, so in this movie about the love between a mother and her child, it makes a whole lot of sense.

As mentioned initially, I wasn’t crazy about elements of the ending and I think it’s longer than it should be. However, apart from this, I was both entertained and impressed by the movie. Especially the look and vibe of the creature which Jon Sklaroff portrayed perfectly.

Along with the awesome women of horror that co-star in this movie. They always get me hooked!

Little Bites is out In Theaters and On Digital from October 4, 2024. It will be out on Shudder later as well.

Plot

In a desperate attempt to protect her ten-year-old daughter, a young widow allows a nightmarish monster to slowly eat her alive.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
