MASTER OF THE HOUSE is a new Netflix series from Thailand. It’s a thriller series with a revenge plot and seven episodes. While it’s also described as drama and even soap opera, the production quality is much better than most classic soap productions.

In fact, from the very first episode, you should notice the camera work alone is stellar. Smooth and long scenes that flow seemless into a new scene. Overall, this series was a very pleasant surprise and that final episode is a feel-good revenge conclusion if ever I saw one.

Meet the Thai diamond family

Master of the House is one big revenge story and a brilliant one at that. Mind you, it does include a lot of terrible and brutal moments before the revenge is complete. However, trust me, it will be worth the wait.

It all begins with the sudden passing of Asia’s richest diamond tycoon.

This results in an almost immediate cutthroat rivalry among his heirs. As this happens, scandalous secrets come to light and the battle for control is brutal. Especially as a recent marriage complicates things further.

Master of the House – Review | Netflix Thai Thriller Series

Spicy and soapy thriller

As just mentioned, the battle to become the master of the house, is made crazier by the fact that the tycoon married a young maid shortly before he died. How does this fit in with the other heirs and their desire to have full power.

The focus of Master of the House is showing the intense power imbalances between the wealthy and their servants. It becomes obvious that those who silently serve also become keepers of the darkest secrets and misdeeds.

However, for there to be power in knowing things, you need to be smart. In this spicy and soapy Thai thriller series on Netflix, a few key characters are very smart. Unfortunately, they’re up against some extremely wealthy (and even more brutal) people, which makes for an epic battle.

The showrunner of Master of the House is Kulp Kaljareuk with Sivaroj Kongsakul as the director.

While each of the seven episodes offer a different (often deeper and darker) look at the world of the very rich and those who work for them, the final episode is catharthic. The first six episodes show the wealthy family acting in increasingly dispicable ways and you will likely hate them.

However, this just means the final episode 7 will work that much better. Through several flashbacks, we see how everything truly happened. It’s one huge reveal and the murder mystery (or murder mysteries, I should say) are no longer mysteries. I loved that final episode!

Master of the House premieres only on Netflix on July 18, 2024.

Plot

When a diamond tycoon dies mysteriously, a cutthroat battle over his estate erupts between his ruthless heirs and the housemaid whom their father recently married.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
