The many advantages of mindfulness

In Murder Mindfully, everything changes for mafia lawyer Björn Diemel, when he decides to attend a mindfulness class. Or “decides” isn’t quite accurate as his wife insists that he does better.

Even if the marriage may be lost, his relationship with his daughter can still be saved. To accomplish this, a much better work-life balance is needed.

However, Björn discovers surprising new coping strategies via mindfulness — including murder. And especially if anyone is a threat to his daughter. Or even just time that has been dedicated to his daughter.

Murder Mindfully – Review | Netflix Thriller-Comedy Series

Dark humor with a lethal edge

While episode 1 of Murder Mindfully does open with Björn Diemel (Oscar-nominated Never Look Away‘s Tom Schilling) disposing of a body via a wood chipper, we do go back to understand how he ended up in this situation.

Still, this scene is an important opener as it shows how dark and bloody Murder Mindfully also is. It feels like something out of Dexter but with a comedic twist.

As we witness Björn Diemel apply his newfound mindfulness techniques directly to his client Dragan Sergowicz (Sascha Geršak), it’s both completely crazy and very relatable.

He is working for a brutal and careless mafia boss, who cannot remember the name of Björn’s daughter no matter how many times he hears it. It’s fascinating to see Björn keep his cool in the craziest situations.

From stress at work to a life-or-death situation. I can’t think of a better way to advertise mindfulness. In fact, I’m thinking I should look into it. Not that I need to dispose of anyone (obviously!) but to handle any kind of stress better.

Plot

When mafia lawyer Björn attends a mindfulness class to find a better work-life balance, he discovers surprising new coping strategies — including murder.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
