NON NEGOTIABLE is a new Netflix thriller from Mexico (org. title: No Negociable). While it’s a thriller about a hostage situation, the focus on corrupt politicians (and some relationship drama) is used to drive in some dark humor.
Overall, this new Netflix movie is exactly the kind of movie viewers can enjoy on a Friday night. Will I watch it again? No. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy watching it once, because I really did.

A hostage negotiator and his wife
In Non Negotiable, we meet the hostage negotiator Alan Bender. From the first assignment, we see him work, it’s obvious that he uses some alternative methods to find a safe solution for everyone involved.
It obviously wouldn’t fly in the real world, but for the purpose of this story, it sets the stage nicely.
Alan Bender (Mauricio Ochmann) may be the best hostage negotiator in Mexico, but his wife (Tato Alexander) doesn’t fall for his tricks. Of course, she’s also a psychiatrist herself, so she knows all about mind games.
When Alan Bender is called to rescue the president from a kidnapping, his wife ends up being part of the hostage situation. It all results in a situation that becomes much more than an average negotiation.
The movie also stars Geraldine Zinat, Leonardo Ortizgris, and Isabella Arroyo in key roles.

This new Mexican Netflix thriller (org. title: No Negociable) is directed by Juan Taratuto. The story is based on an idea by Alejandro De Grazia, and I can easily see it being remade in other countries.
Non Negotiable is a Spanish-language movie, but it could just as easily have been from any US state or European country. Actually, from anywhere in the world. If we have one thing in common, it’s that people in power often misuse that power.
Sometimes, they do it in extreme ways, and other times, they do it “just” to make their own situation more comfortable. Whatever the case, it’s nothing unique for Mexico, though it is one of the countries that has suffered more from corruption.
Well, as far as we all know.
The runtime is just 1 hour and 27 minutes, which makes for tight storytelling and overall solid entertainment.
Non Negotiable is on Netflix globally on July 26, 2024.
