ON THE RUN (2024) on Tubi is a thriller about revenge, survival, and the definition of family. It also has a Sons of Anarchy vibe due to the biker story. A high-quality production worth checking out. Read our full On the Run movie review here!

ON THE RUN (2024) is a new Tubi Original. It’s a thriller about two sisters who learn the truth about their family. This is very much a revenge story but (even more so) it’s a survival story.

It’s a MarVista production, so it does have a distinct Lifetime-vibe to it. However, there is also blood and violence as this is a thriller and definitely not “just” a drama. With a good cast and a story touching on several important subjects, it’s worth your time.

Get your motor runnin’…

… Head out on the highway. I always find it nearly impossible not to hear the “Born To Be Wild” song playing in my mind, when a movie features bikers. And the opening scene of On the Run (2024) is very much about bikers. And violence!

Following the opening scene, there’s a 15-year time jump and we meet two “biker daughters” as they’re living a life away from motorcycles and crime. In fact, they have no idea about their past. Well, one knows a little, but the other was too young,

If you’re a fan of the Sons of Anarchy series (or the Mayans M.C. spin-off), this is definitely worth checking out. Sure, we follow the girls mostly, but it’s all about the choices made by other people early in their lives. People wearing biker patches.

What makes a family

While this is a thriller about both survival and revenge, it’s also a story about family. There’s your biological family and the people who act as your family. In other words, anyone can become a father, but to be a dad you need to actually be there.

The two main characters come to learn that their biology may not be exactly as they thought (or were led to believe), which in turn is an important lesson. Whatever the specific genetics, the two girls are related to people who are or were criminals.

As a result, their current family is involved with a secret program, but they will have to go on the run (hence the title) to survive. And also, to learn the full truth about their biological family and who to trust.

This 2024 On the Run movie on Tubi was directed by Traci Hays. She previously directed the Tubi horror thriller My Bloody Galentine (2024). A movie that also featured a revenge story, though in a very different way.

In the cast, you’ll see a few familiar faces. The two main characters are portrayed by Sofia Masson, who was in the 2023 Tubi survival movie Castaways, and Taylor Geare, who was in Christopher Nolan‘s Inception as a young child.

The screenplay comes from Sarah Eisenberg and Becky Wangberg. These two writers previously worked on a lot of movies and TV shows for kids, so this is very different. It does work though as it never gets too slow or, in any way, silly.

I recognize this isn’t a glowing recommendation, but it is actually a solid production with an interesting story (that doesn’t get too complex) and good performances from its cast.

On the Run (2024) is on TUBI from August 17, 2024.

Plot

Two teen sisters learn about their family’s involvement with a secret program and go on the run to escape the deadly criminals targeting their family.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
