SISTERS’ FEUD on Netflix is a Mexican Revenge series (org. title: Las Hermanas Guerra). Rarely have I watched a story play out with such an extreme pace. Combined with the telenovela vibe, it’s a very intense experience. And not in a good way. Read our Sisters’ Feud series review here!

SISTERS’ FEUD is a new Netflix series from Mexico (org. title: Las Hermanas Guerra). It’s a revenge story and I tend to be a sucker for those. Also, it has a crazy telenovela vibe, which I can also get behind when it’s used as a driver in a kitsch way.

For this new Mexican Netflix series, it’s absolutely wild. I had to pause after the first 15 minutes, just to see how long I had been watching because I have never (as in ever) watched a story unfold this quickly. The series has 20 (yes, twenty!) episodes with an average runtime of around 40 minutes.

A classic (yet extreme) revenge story

Sisters’ Feud focuses on the hatred and confrontations between sisters Perla and Antonia. These two sisters are – according to the official plot – “divided by love and betrayal” which just might be the understatement of the decade.

Perla is presented as some sort of ingenue though we also see her being the very opposite within the first few minutes. Antonia, on the other hand, is cruel and sinister in every way imaginable. Again, within the first episode, she acts in unforgivable ways.

And yes, obviously, Antonia is the entertaining character whereas Perla is the victim. Sure, Antonia is extremely cruel towards Perla, but we don’t see Perla fight back much either.

That definitely annoyed me.

I mean, in the first episode, Antonia takes Perla’s daughter (who was born as the result of an assault orchestrated by Antonia). Then Perla is told that the child has died and seems to just accept this without investigating any further.

A lot more elements come into play, but you need to experience those for yourself. Almost two decades later, Perla discovers that her daughter is actually alive. And in prison. So, obviously, Perla gets herself arrested to find her daughter in said prison.

I mean, what else could she possibly do?!

Sisters' Feud – Review | Netflix | Mexican Revenge Series

Hang on tight, because this escalates quickly!

In Sisters’ Feud, we jump right into the story. We meet several characters and none of them are very likable. They are either cruel and villainous or naive and innocent. Except, no one is really innocent in this story.

Also, the plot unfolds so fast that you won’t get the chance to know any of the characters at first. Rarely have I watched a story play out with such an extreme pace. If I told you what happened within the first 15 minutes, you’d think I was recapping the entire season.

It. is. wild.

In fact, it feels almost like a spoof of a telenovela. The revenge plot is extremely heavy-handed, which you might expect from a telenovela-style story. Still, I’ve never seen anything play out so fast at the same time. And I cannot recommend this way of telling a story.

You can watch Sisters’ Feud on Netflix now

The creator of Sisters’ Feud is Carlos Villegas who also directs the series. Carlos Villegas previously also made the Netflix series Pact of Silence. The writer of the series is José Ignacio Valenzuela, who created the better Netflix production Who Killed Sara?

The cast includes a few familiar faces as well as many I didn’t recognize. We have Ana Serradilla, Claudia Álvarez, Christian Tappan (Griselda), Ana Valeria Becerril, and Erick Elías (The Accident). Also, Bernardo Flores, Sabrina Seara, Julio Casado, Sebastián Dante (The Accident), Regina Pavón (Dark Desire), Tatiana del Real, Alejandra Ambrosi, and Ofelia Medina (Triptych).

I don’t know what I expected from a Mexican revenge series that I knew would have a telenovela vibe, but certainly not this. Not in my wildest imagination could I have predicted the pace at which these extreme plot developments would come.

Sisters Feud (org. title: Las Hermanas Guerra) has fairly short episodes at 35-45 minutes each. However, there are 20 episodes to the series and after episode 1, so much has happened that I was already breathless. If you can handle that first episode, I think you’ll enjoy the rest.

It continues to be a wild ride, and things you might guess from that first episode (like who will obviously end up a couple down the line) will, of course, happen.

Sisters’ Feud is out on Netflix on November 13, 2024.

Plot

A woman’s refusal to join her sister’s twisted scheme sparks betrayal and revenge as she tries to reunite with her long-lost daughter in prison.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
