TEACUP on Peacock is a new horror series starring Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman. The series has 8 half-hour episodes and is produced by James Wan. It’s off to a very intriguing start. Read our Teacup series review here!

TEACUP is a new Peacock series with just 8 half-hour episodes. It’s a horror, thriller, and sci-fi hybrid which is made obvious from the first two episodes released on its premiere day. The entire season is released as a Halloween event with the final two coming on October 31.

Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman star in this series, but are joined by a group of other amazing actors. Fair warning, not everyone will make it. Not even to next week’s episodes. If you were unsure whether this is a horror story, you won’t be by the end of episode 2. Damn!

The less you know, the better

As with many stories from the horror, sci-fi, and thriller genre, it’s best not to know too much. For Teacup, the official plot only mentions that a diverse group of people are followed as they face a mysterious and deadly threat.

Also, we know that it plays out in rural Georgia and that they must band together to survive.

And really, that’s all you need to know. From watching episode 1 of Teacup, you ought to be intrigued. I certainly was! By the end of episode 2, you’ll likely be both terrified and start guessing about what’s going on. Again, that’s definitely what I did.

With episodes that are only around 30 minutes (okay, a bit more with commercial breaks), it’s a quick watch. I would absolutely have binge-watched the entire series if the option was there. I suppose I should thank Peacock for making me wait.

The story of this series deserves to play out slowly, I think.

Teacup: Season 1 – Review | Peacock Horror Series

Yvonne Strahovski shines – as always!

I’ll gladly admit that the cast of Teacup was more than enough to draw me in. And then for this series to be a horror, thriller, and sci-fi story? What more could you ask for?! Me personally? Not much.

The cast is led by Yvonne Strahovski (Dexter, The Tomorrow War, The Handmaid’s Tale) and Scott Speedman (The Strangers, The Monster, You). While both are really good, it’s Yvonne Strahovski that shines. Well, to me, anyway. Her character is also a lot more fascinating.

Alongside Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman, who portray a married couple going through a crisis, we have Emilie Bierre and Caleb Dolden (No Escape) as their kids.

Also, there is an impressive group of actors rounding out this core cast. From Kathy Baker (Edward Scissorhands) and Boris McGiver (Servant) to Luciano Leroux (Yellowjackets) and Chaske Spencer (The English, The Society).

Last, but not least, we have Rob Morgan (Smile) as the very mysterious character in a mask.

Teacup is based on the best-selling novel “Stinger” by author Robert McCammon. This series adaptation comes from Ian McCulloch (Yellowstone, Chicago Fire). Both are also executive producers on the Peacock series alongside the series star Yvonne Strahovski and James Wan.

Yes, the very same James Wan who brought us the horror franchises Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring). Including all the spin-offs of the latter, such as The Nun, Annabelle, and The Curse of La Llorona. Having James Wan onboard is usually a good sign for horror fans.

There are four directors – each directs two episodes – and they are: John Hyams (Alone, Sick), Chloe Okuno (Watcher), Kevin Tancharoen (The Brothers Sun), and Evan Katz (Azrael). The latter is usually known as E.L. Katz but uses his first name for this credit.

The series premieres with its two first episodes on October 10, and the remaining 6 episodes will be released on the following three Thursdays. This means the final two episodes come out on Halloween, so this is truly a Halloween 2024 event. And shaping up to be a damn good one!

Teacup starts streaming on Peacock on October 10, 2024.

Plot

Trapped on a farm in rural Georgia, a group of neighbors must put aside their differences and unite in the face of a mysterious and deadly threat.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
