THE G (2023) is a new revenge story screening at Fantasia 2024. It’s a crime thriller that ultimately has a revenge plot, but starts with someone being downright cruel and greedy.

I’ve always adored Dale Dickey and seeing her as the absolute lead of this movie was a joy. She is perfect in every aspect of portraying the title character. Definitely check this out when you get the chance!

A real life horror

If you’ve watched I Care A Lot starring Rosamund Pike, you’ll recognize the hustle. However, here we get Dale Dickey in the title role of The G and she is a victim of that grift.

Calling “The G” (or Ann Hunter) a victim seems weird, as Dale Dickey plays this character as a no-nonsense woman, who does not back down. However, it just goes to show how much power this hustle has over senior citizens.

Ann Hunter is nobody’s fool, but none of that matters in a world of bureaucracy where someone can remove your autonomy by becoming your guardian. Unfortunately, Ann and her very sick husband Chip are easy marks.

A treacherous legal guardian takes over the rights and finances in record time.

The G (2024) – Review | Revenge Crime Thriller

I cannot get enough of Dale Dickey

Dale Dickey is playing a role ten years older than her real age, but I cannot imagine anyone else portraying Ann Hunter better. She’s giving vibes of Eastwood or Bronson in their revenge golden years, and I am loving it.

I feel like I have watched Dale Dickey in amazing roles for decades. Because I have. She’s been a bonafide character actor in films and TV series, which she has won many awards for.

You’ll probably recognize her from series such as True Blood, A League of Their Own, and Them. Or movies like Winter’s Bone, Bloodline, and No Exit.

With THE G, Dale Dickey plays the lead role and it is glorious. More, please!

Watch THE G in theaters this September

THE G comes from Montreal director Karl R. Hearne. This is his second feature film and one that has already become a film festival favorite. When you watch it, it’s very easy to see why.

The movie is full of strong women with Dale Dickey delivering a portrayal that is even better than anything I’ve seen from her before. And as someone who has been a fan of hers for decades that’s saying a lot.

Karl R. Hearne also wrote this movie, which was inspired by his own grandmother, who was apparently one tough cookie. Also, it’s meant to put a spotlight on the increasing frequency of elder abuse.

Enjoy this gritty revenge thriller based on real events and laced with the bitter humor of a woman, who is done taking crap from anyone. Actually, I don’t think “The G” has ever let anyone push her around.

THE G is reviewed as part of our Fantasia 2024 coverage but will be out in theaters in September 2024.

Plot

Abused and deprived by a corrupt legal guardian and an uncaring system, an elderly woman sets out for payback. A dark revenge thriller with a very unconventional protagonist.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
