WOLVES AGAINST THE WORLD is a werewolf horror movie and the second movie in the FRESH HELL trilogy. Like the first movie, it’s not your classic slasher, but still worth watching. Read our full Wolves Against the World movie review here!

WOLVES AGAINST THE WORLD is the second movie in the new trilogy Fresh Hell. A horror trilogy that honors classic horror movie subgenres while focusing on very current issues.

THE FIRST MOVIE OF FRESH HELL

Be sure to also check out The Exorcism of Saint Patrick >

The first movie was about the horrors and dangers of conversion therapy. And now the second movie focuses on political fanaticism and how easily people can get swept up in something they may not entirely believe in.

A very dark tale

For many, having a taste of power can be a difficult thing to let go of. Maybe this is why the two members of a defunct neo-Nazi metal band struggle when they reunite at the site of their bandmate’s suicide.

While one has decided to let go of political issues and wants to spread positive vibes and understanding, the other does not.

It’s the difference between trying to atone for your sins versus allowing yourself to sink into depravity. Especially as the latter comes with power and adoration of those with the same believes.

Wolves Against the World (2024) – Review | Werewolf Horror

Two wolves

The term “lone wolf” has long been used about a single perpetrator of some brutal and heinous crime where a person acted on their own. However, far too often, it seems that there is always more to someone’s journey.

We are creatures who exist in packs, just like wolves, and for Wolves Against the World, there’s also the added element of actually being werewolves. Of a different kind, but still visually and violently familiar.

The battle between the two types of wolves in Wolves Against the World immediately made me think of the legendary legend often attributed to Indigenous Americans.

I am talking about the whole “There are two wolves inside you and they are always fighting. One is darkness and despair, the other is light and hope. Which wolf wins?” story.

The answer, of course, is “Whichever one you feed” and that perfectly sums up how these two friends suddenly find themselves on opposite sides now.

Just like with the first movie of the Fresh Hell trilogy, this was written and directed by Quinn Armstrong, who also plays a big role in the movie as Anders. He does an amazing job of portraying this key character.

If you expect a classic werewolf story, then you will most likely be disappointed. Think more “lone wolf” dangerous types but also with a supernatural touch. Yes, you will see some – quite good, I might add – transformation scenes.

THIS WOLF MOVIE IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH…

The movie Out Come the Wolves which also came out recently >

While the runtime is just 88 minutes, I still found it a little too long. It never gets boring, but it could’ve been a sharper story with a tighter pace.

I was not a fan of the non-chronological storytelling that made the story more difficult to ingest. Still, the cast led by Michael Kunicki and Quinn Armstrong makes this worth watching!

If we gave half stars I would give this 2½ stars.

Wolves Against the World (2024) is In Theaters and on VOD from September 3, 2024.

Plot

Two members of a defunct neo-Nazi metal band reunite at the site of their bandmate’s suicide. One sinks into depravity and grievance and one tries to atone for what he has done. What ensues is an occult battle of wills between two men who have done terrible things as one tries to lure the other back into the movement, unleashing the animals that hide inside them.

I write reviews and recaps on Heaven of Horror. And yes, it does happen that I find myself screaming, when watching a good horror movie. I love psychological horror, survival horror and kick-ass women. Also, I have a huge soft spot for a good horror-comedy. Oh yeah, and I absolutely HATE when animals are harmed in movies, so I will immediately think less of any movie, where animals are harmed for entertainment (even if the animals are just really good actors). Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. And people assume horror lovers are the messed up ones. Go figure!
